OUR STORY

Oyster General is an extension of my home, which we fondly refer to as The Oyster House. My house once sat on the Bowery, in New York City. In 1854, an oysterman from Locust, NJ, sailed his boat to the Bowery to sell his local catch of oysters when he came across our house there and fell in love with it. He purchased the house, moved it carefully to his boat, and sailed it down the Hudson River to Clay Pit Creek, where it sits atop a hill today.

The house has had very few owners since that time; we are only the fifth to call it home. Though changes have been made, the charm and spirit of this house are as they must have been back then; it is filled with a sense of calm, peace, and belonging. We love the history of our home and the people who came here before us.

We lovingly renovated this house and decorated it with things that maKe us feel good. Items that were crafted by loved ones, fixtures and fabrics that are timeless, and a color palette that is neutral and calm but always lighthearted. We like to encourage the outside to come in, so what we see through our windows can speak for itself.

Oyster General is the place for items like these, things with which you fall in love and want to sail back to your home.
